The goy and the Orthodox watch a football game

They were celebrating a bar mitzvah in the reception hall on the first floor of my apartment building. Black hats and white fringe, Hava Nagalia and all that. Several of the men were crowded in the common area where I was working on my homework.

We were all watching the Giants game. They talked among themselves, some kind of mix of Yiddish and English. Half the family had flown in from New York, and while they were all very happy for the young man, there was a playoff game to be considered as well.

"Ah," the old Rabbi moaned as the Giants flailed about on the field. "We're going to have to do a kaddish over this game."

"And you're still watching?" asked another one of the attendees.

"Of course," the Rabbi replied in his heavy Brooklyn accent, "you stay until the end."
